Food, wine and great concerts
Summer days are rolling on and the preparations for this years’ Qormi Wine Festival are gearing up even faster with the aim of making this one a year to remember, as this annual event is hitting its 10th anniversary.
The Qormi Wine Festival 2014 will be held on the first weekend of September at the heart of the village core that will be dressed up for the occasion, on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th from 1930hrs until midnight.
Well renowned for its wine-making culture, Qormi is once again reviving this centuries’ old tradition while creating an added attraction for locals and foreigners at this time of year.
Music, food and wine are the three main highlights of this 10th edition, as the organizing committee worked a lot during the last few months to get a star-studded line up for the main stage and the chill-out area.
On Friday, the band led by Mro. Mark Spiteri Lucas will hit the main stage just after 2100hrs with a massive concert featuring Ludwing Galea, Chiara, Eleonor Cassar and Neville Refalo. The following day, Claudia Faniello and her band will rock the festival with popular tunes, pop classics and other summer hits.
On Saturday, local lads from the band PlanZero will warm up the crowd from 2000hrs. PlanZero will feature their hit track ‘Shooting Star’ and other massive tunes. Other bands performing during this festival include Maltin Biss and DBanned.
This annual event will once again present a wide selection of local red, white and rosé wines of several grape varieties, provided by Marsovin.
Separate wine stalls will be set up alongside Main Street Qormi, with the characteristic St George’s Parish acting as a fitting backdrop to the typical festive setting.
Food stalls featuring traditional Maltese cuisine will be available at €7 per dish. The menu includes the famous tuna dish, Maltese pasta served with meat balls, Maltese platter, chicken, and also pork served with potatoes - and these are all home-made tasty dishes!
Entrance to the Qormi Wine Festival is free of charge. Those wishing to try out the several wines on offer should purchase a specially-designed souvenir wine glass for the price of €12, which will then be theirs to keep. The challenge is then to try out as many wines as can be!
Wines will be served until 11.30pm. Those under 17 years of age will not be served any wine but may still enjoy the event quenching their thirst at the beverages stall.
